Member Perks

A Monthly General Meeting is held at the Bayside Bistro in Courtenay on the third Thursday of the month at 7 pm. It typically includes a short business section, a member interview, a guest speaker, time to socialize, and an Open Mic. Guests are welcome.

The North Island Writing Conference, held every January, offers writing workshops from well-known authors across Vancouver Island.

The monthly newsletter includes member news and successes, the small writing groups schedule, literary events, contests, and publishing opportunities.

Small Writing Groups offer support and constructive criticism to members. Most take place once a month at members’ homes. We also have several silent writing groups, where writers come together to write in friendly silence at a scheduled time each week. They are held at a local café or on Zoom. Visit our Small Writing Groups page to learn more.

The Beta Reading Program provides feedback on a manuscript from a ‘typical reader’ and is free for members. This program will start up again in October 2026.

Beyond the Page in the Comox Valley is a podcast featuring interviews with authors and others in writing and publishing.

We acknowledge the unceded territory of the K’omoks First Nation where, as writers,

we are inspired by the beauty and history of the land and its people.
